Good afternoon,

We wanted to update the community on the closure of Porches today. Early this morning an employee of the restaurant woke up with symptoms of an illness, some of which were consistent with those that can be present with Covid-19. Although all the “Covid-like” symptoms were not present, the employee immediately notified management and then went to seek medical attention and to be tested for the Covid-19 virus. We believe it is in the best interest of our patrons and staff to close the restaurant until the test results are known. Given that the results may not be received until Monday of next week, we will be closed the balance of today as well as tomorrow, Sunday and Monday. We realize that this may have upended your plans but believe me, it did ours as well. First and foremost, we hope for a speedy recovery for the Porches employee, regardless of what their illness may be.

This unfortunate issue is indicative of what our entire region is seeing these past two weeks. The case count has gone up exponentially and as of today it shows no signs of slowing down. Multiple restaurants in the region have had to severely reduce their capacity, close temporarily, revert to take-out service only or close indefinitely because of the virus. We are considering all of these options. The Resident Advisory Committee met today with Burrows and I and we will continue to keep the community up to date as we learn more. As I indicated in my update last week, the restaurant’s survival relies upon your support and we appreciate that support very much. The development partners have continually provided financial support to the restaurant of close to $200,000 per year so this issue is very important to them as well and it’s understandable how that plays a part in any decisions that are made.  I will be sending out another update sometime on Sunday or Monday.

Please remember that as of 5:00 this afternoon, masks are required where social distancing is not possible. If you plan on coming into the Sales Center, please have a mask on.  Our staff will be wearing masks when anyone comes into the office and while on tours. Remember that we are always a phone call or email away and it’s usually not necessary to come into the office.

Thanks very much for your support and have a good weekend.
