Good Evening Residents,

There is a lot to cover this week. The last two weeks I’ve made some comments about the weather, and now we are all thinking of the residents of Florida and the Caribbean. While it appears that the brunt of Irma will miss southeastern North Carolina, do not take the storm lightly and continue to follow its progress, so you are ready. It now appears that the storm will pass to our west, though we still expect to get some tropical force winds and rain. Crews have been working this week to make sure the drainage is working and also to remove some of the foliage that may come loose in a storm. We strongly recommend that Saturday night everyone secure patio furniture and other loose items outside your home. Because of the storm’s track to our west, we are planning to go ahead with the band Sunday evening at Porches. More on that later.

Development Updates
The crews are almost done with White Cliffs Drive, and we should be putting the rock down on both Barnesmore and White Cliffs in the next week or so. The work is really looking good, and we are excited about the prospect of being able to drive down to the boat ramps in several weeks.

Two additional Lots went under contract this past week, Lot 6 and Lot 171. Lot 171 is the last river front Lot in our first phase and interest in the White Cliffs area is only increasing. Our Sales Team gave sixteen tours last week which is a great number. We are now up to 103 closed Lots with nine others under contract. Our Sales team will be down at the Wilmington Boat Show this weekend, showcasing the community and we will also be attending the Ideal Living show in Northern Virginia in two weeks.

As you drive down Chair Road, you may notice something missing. The house at the corner of Granny and Chair Road was removed today, and we will be mowing the lot next week. Work on that project began three years ago, and we continue to make additional efforts to enhance your drive into the community.

Amenities Update
Nothing new to report this week on progress with the amenities but we do expect to begin work on the multi-purpose room very soon. Also, the paver should be on site at the tennis/pickleball area in a few weeks.

Neighborhood Safety
Unfortunately, we had another incident with an individual getting into vehicles last evening. One of our residents was awoken when their camera system alerted them to someone in their driveway at approximately 4:37 am. They immediately called 911, and the Sheriff’s Department responded in less than ten minutes. The deputies used their unique codes to access the gates and were able to get in right away. Video of the incident revealed what appears to be a white male, six feet in height wearing a gray hoodie sweatshirt and black gloves. He walked up to the resident’s vehicle and tried the door, which was locked. When he couldn’t open it, he walked away. We know of three other vehicles that were opened, all of which were unlocked. What appears to the same individual was seen on our camera system at the front gate, walking over the I-140 bridge towards the community at 4:22 am. Deputies stayed on the property for quite some time trying to locate the individual, but he was not found. I spoke to Detective early this morning and to patrol deputies late this afternoon, and they plan on additional patrols. Tyler will be working all night tonight as well as Saturday night and Sunday night.

The two biggest takeaways from this incident are 1) lock your vehicles at all times if they are outside of your garage and lock your garage if they are inside 2) calling 911 immediately works in getting deputies to respond and either catch the individual or at least scare them away. Criminals are typically idiots and they typically talk to each other about their successes and failures and this incident was clearly a failure in that the individual was only on the property for fifteen minutes before being spotted and the police called.

There will be a Community Watch meeting on September 28th at Porches at 7:00 pm and we strongly encourage all residents to attend.
