A Note from River Bluffs: Responses to this message should be sent to me via email: rconger53@yahoo.com the River Bluffs team may not receive replies due to the holiday weekend. Also, a friendly reminder that the Sales Center and Porches Cafe will be closed tomorrow. Normal operations will resume on Tuesday. Have a wonderful holiday!

Fellow Residents,

This note describes our planned activities for Labor Day tomorrow and includes a list of volunteers needed at the end.

Thanks to John Lennon and the River Bluffs Development Group for making the park areas look good for our neighborhood gathering, stocking firewood for the cookout, and supplying a corn hole game, tables and chairs.

I received several positive comments about creative name tags both from new and longer term residents.  Put on your creative hat (or even crazy hat) and make your personalized name tag. Tina Chadwick volunteered to bring blank name tags for those who would like to use them.

I will contact those who wanted to kayak separately with times and things to bring.   I need to collect some more kayaks before determining whether we can include everyone in one excursion leaving at 7:30 AM or will need to have a second excursion around 9:15 AM.

The most popular item in responses was …….. food.  The cool culinary connection will be in the fire pit area and tables between Porches and the Post Office.  We will plan to start at noon and have a second round at 5:00 PM.   Feel free to bring any grilling items you want as well as pot luck dishes, such as salads, chili, chips, desserts, beverages and other items as desired.   We will have burgers, hot dogs, buns, ketchup and mustard.

The park adjacent to the “town square” will be the gaming center of the day and will be open from noon to dusk. All of the requested games (Bocce Ball, Corn Hole and Ping Pong / Beer Pong) will be available. Other games may also pop up, so walk the park and see what is happening.  We also have a massive arsenal of water balloons that can easily be deployed should interest in friendly tossing and splashing arise during the afternoon.

Water Volleyball will start at 1:00 PM and John & Kate Distler will provide guitar and vocals at 6:00 PM by the fire pit (or pool depending…).

Even though traveling, Jhansi Kandasamy has secured use of the GE Hub that can be utilized if a number of people want to play cards, board games or sponsor a movie watching time by bringing your favorite DVD or computer for Netflix streaming. I will open the Hub based on level of interest.

An impromptu walk to the river park to watch the sunset may occur and beverages may be part of that activity.

Mosquito slapping will start promptly at 7:38 PM for any that want to hang around to participate.

Volunteers Needed:

– Head chefs and others for managing the fires, grilling and food distribution

  • Lunch shift (noon)
  • Dinner shift (5PM)

– Bring your games (Bocce, Corn Hole, etc.) to the park.   A volunteer for “Game Master” is needed to coordinate the set-up of the games.

– Photographers needed to capture some images of the day and post them on the Facebook site and/or send them to rconger53@yahoo.com.

– Clean up (as needed) during the evening. (Help is appreciate by all!)

Thanks!
