Good Evening,

Well we suffered through another week of beautiful weather this week and its hard to imagine that we could almost use a little rain. Some updates from the week as you start your weekend are noted below. Please be sure to read the information about the Camber Drive Block Party near the end of the e-mail!
Development Updates

Work in White Cliffs continues to progress with rocking and final installation of the stormwater system. The pervious concrete installed at the bottom of White Cliffs Drive was sealed this week and you may have noticed a new pervious cart path between Lots 175 and 176 leading to the riverfront park. Work will continue on that in the coming weeks and it will be much easier to get down to the park and enjoy the sunsets. You may notice that the top part of the path is not completed and that was done on purpose as there are still several utility connections to be made where the path will meet with Chair Road and once those are done, the pavement will be installed on the missing section.
The paving on Chair Road has been completed and many of you have asked why they stopped the paving where they did. When I-140 was constructed years ago the prior land owner was able to negotiate with NC DOT to have the existing bridge built so they could still access the property that is now River Bluffs. When the bridge was constructed, new pavement was installed along a portion of Chair Road as well and that pavement is still in good condition. On a related note, we have inquired of NC DOT about painting the guardrails leading up to the bridge (and on our side of the bridge) to make them not quite as noticeable. Not sure what their response will be or if will be feasible but we’ll keep you posted.
Amenities Update

Obviously, the paving company did not come out this week to pave the amenities area on the east side of the bridge but you may have notice all of the survey stakes out there now. These were necessary to make sure the grades of the pavement were correct so that water will flow where its supposed to after installation. They should be out on Monday to start paving. The company completing the surface for the tennis, basketball and pickle ball courts has been lined up and will get to work after the paving company and the fencing, utilities and construction of the bathroom facilities will follow that. The dog park will also be completed this year and should be available for use sometime in mid to late December.
A couple of notes regarding the Mail Center. The Postmaster has requested that “Held Mail” requests be put in the outgoing mailbox, not your individual boxes as they are likely to missed otherwise. Additionally, you should try to use only the outgoing box on the left as you enter from Chair Road (the original boxes) as the other outgoing boxes are not being checked regularly by the mail carrier.
Neighborhood Safety

We had a great turnout last evening for the Neighborhood Watch meeting last night at Porches. Deputy Moore and Detective Adams from the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department gave everyone in attendance some good information and special thanks to Bill Jayne and Felicia Grant for setting it up. Their strongest message was to never hesitate to call 911 should you see something unusual and always be sure to lock your vehicles (even in the garage!) and garages. Together we send a message that River Bluffs is not the place for criminal activity.
Community Activities

Farmer’s Market – I’m sure everyone saw the e-mail from Farmer Steve today about his new website and as usual, he will be on the front porch of Porches tomorrow from 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. with a great selection of produce.
Live Music at Porches – “The Other Guys” will be playing at Porches on Sunday from 3-6 and we encourage you to invite your friends and come out for some great music, food and spirits.
Camber Drive Block Party - The Garden Home residents of Camber Drive are hosting a block party on Sunday, October 8th at 2:00pm. The event is open to all residents; there will be food, beverages, music and an exciting time for all. There is a flyer in the Mail Center with additional information.

Those in the community who plan to attend are asked to bring a dish to share and chairs for seating. Golf cart/car parking is available at the end of Chair Road in the lot on the way to the River. Do not park in any resident yards. Camber Drive will be blocked with tents.

Classic Cars & Architecture Community Event - Join us on Saturday, October 21st from 11:00am – 3:00pm for a car review and more! Share this event with your friends! Thank you to Ritt Schiano and the member of his car club for helping us make this event a reality! Use this link to share: https://riverbluffsliving.com/event/cars

In closing, I would love to get some feedback from all of you as to whether you would prefer that we continue with the weekly updates or go to every other week. I’m personally torn about the issue and while I know the information is sometimes repetitive, we want to keep the communication going. Feel free to e-mail me your thoughts about it anytime.
As I leave this evening I will be returning the flag to its fully raised position. Whether a prayer or a kind thought, I know we all be thinking of the families impacted by last Sunday’s horrible events in Las Vegas.
Have a great weekend.
– John
