Good Afternoon,

Just wanted to wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving holiday and pass along a couple of items. The Sales Center will be closed Thursday and Friday and will reopen on Saturday. Porches will also be closed on Thursday and Friday for lunch but we are going to open the bar on Friday evening from 6:00-9:00pm and while there will not be food service, Erin has fresh salsa and corn chips to go with your beverage of choice. Some other updates and reminders for everyone:

  • Don’t forget the neighborhood Oyster Roast, next Saturday, December 1st starting at 5:30 pm. We will have roasted oysters along with a number of other great fall treats. There is no cost for the event but we do ask that you call Porches and let them know you will be attending no later than Monday so we can get a head count for the food. There will be a cash bar available and iced tea and coffee will be provided. Please call Porches to RSVP if you plan to attend: 910-675-9090.
  • The New Hanover County Planning Commission will hear the request for the rezoning of the land for the proposed sand mine (north of GE) on January 10th at 6:00 p.m. at the County Government Center. More information will be provided as the date gets closer but wanted to make sure everyone had the date on their calendar.
  • Farmer Steve has started taking registrations for the River Bluffs CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program. This involves getting a box every week of fresh produce, some of it from our very own River Bluffs farm. If you interested you can click on this link   River Bluffs Farm CSA  and then on the “Join the CSA” link on the Farm page of our website.
  • This is the time of year that the deer are typically on the move so please exercise caution as you travel down Chair Road, particularly near the bridge as this is one of their favorite crossing spots.
  • The builders in the community were sent an e-mail yesterday indicating that we plan to reinstitute the deposit bond program if they do not start taking better care of their building sites. We know that some are better than others but please know that we are constantly staying on them about making sure their subcontractors are showing respect for the rest of the community. Along those lines, please make sure that any trash you put in cans is bagged as we’ve had some issues with loose trash and packing material coming out of the trucks.
  • Don’t forget that the bar will be open at Porches on Friday evening from 6:00-9:00 p.m. and Jennifer will holding down the fort.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and see you all next week.
