Good Afternoon,

Well, today and tomorrow promise to be the “calm before the storm” with winter paying us a visit by Sunday night. Thankfully we don’t have any precipitation forecast to go along with the colder temperatures. Isn’t it great to live somewhere where temperatures in the thirties makes the news? Karen and Kyle are currently in Chicago at the Ideal Living show talking up our community and bragging about our great weather. They are also bragging about how active our community is and how much you all give back to our region. Last week you were responsible for collecting 619 pounds of food for the Little Red Wagon food drive. Thank you very much to all of you who participated and a special thanks to Elsie Freund and Toni Tucker for coordinating the event.

Work in the next section of Rosewood Landing is inching closer to completion. If you haven’t walked back there recently, most of the roads are rocked, Mastec is installing electrical service and paving is just around the corner. When finished with this section, we will have fifty-five new homesites and sixteen additional garden homes in Rosewood Landing. On the other side of the property, work is progressing very well with water, sewer and storm water installation down the road to the Marina. In the last update I mentioned that we are working on two new neighborhoods in the area south of the power lines and on Tuesday, January 29th at 5:30 p.m. at Porches, we will have an informational meeting about the two neighborhoods. Sales traffic has been strong so far this year and both these neighborhoods will help continue that trend. On Tuesday, February 5th, we will have the Association’s annual meeting at Porches at 6:00 p.m. You should be receiving a notice from Premier Management next week in the mail.

Speaking of the mail……………..We have been back and forth with the United State Postal Service regarding the continual problems with mail delivery. Our normal carriers are doing a great job but often times the management of the Post Office has different ideas about how things should be handled. Here’s what we are suggesting you do to make sure your mail arrives in a timely fashion and to the right box. It will be a minor inconvenience to make the change but should save a lot of problems down the road. Basically, we are asking that you include your box number along with your street address. For example, if you were sending me a letter you would address it this way:

John Lennon 3571 Hansa Drive, Box 101 Castle Hayne, N.C. 28429

For this to work, it’s important to remember that you will still need to have your physical street address in addition to your box number.

Work on the bluff at the riverfront has been going on every day, six days a week and the crews have made great progress. Literally, hundreds of loads of rock and clean concrete have been used to stabilize the bluff and provide a great foundation for grasses, shrubs, and trees to grow. We may get a ten-day extension to continue the work into February but right now it looks like they will get finished right at the end of this month.

Community Activities

Farm Market – Don’t forget Farmer Steve will be out in front of Porches tomorrow with a great selection of produce and he will be joined by a number of other local vendors. The hours are 10:00am – 2:00pm.

Trivia Night – Tonight is the second Porches Trivia Night and it promises to be a lot of fun. The festivities start at 6:00pm and go until 9:00pm.

Sunday Brunch – Sunday, January 27th from 11:00am – 3:00pm. Chef Erin will be hosting this fun event. This one will feature a brunch menu as opposed to a buffet and reservations are not required unless you have a group of five or more.

Outdoor Furniture – If you are interested in ordering any outdoor furniture like the rockers and benches we have in front of Porches, please e-mail Pam Smith at Pam@riverbluffsliving.com and she will be happy to help. A number of you have ordered the furniture over the last couple of years and it’s virtually indestructible

Porches Private Party – Porches will be closed for lunch on Saturday, February 2nd in order to host a wedding event. The bar will be open later that evening but it may not open till around 7:30pm. We will let you know more in the next week or so as to the timing for the bar.

River Bluffs “SWAG” – Over the last several months many of you have asked about procuring shirts, jackets, hats etc. with the River Bluffs logo on it. We have made arrangements with the company that makes our shirts and jackets to come to Porches one Friday evening with their catalog and you will have the opportunity to order your apparel that evening. Because they embroider our logo on everything they can do small orders. We are not making any money off of this but rather came up with this idea in response to several requests, and it’s easier than us carrying a lot of inventory. We will let you know when they will be here but it should be in the next couple of weeks.

In closing, thank you again for making River Bluffs your home. It is a wonderful place to live and a wonderful place to work. Resident Sonia Morris has decided that she was not content just living here and I’m happy to announce that she will be joining our sales team on a part-time basis. Sonia was an active Realtor in the Wilmington market and we’re excited to have her join the team. You will see her around the office over the next couple of weekends as we attend more of the real estate shows and during popular events like the Parade of Homes.

Have a great weekend.
