Good afternoon,

As you no doubt now know, coastal North Carolina is projected to feel the effects of Hurricane Dorian beginning sometime late Wednesday. River Bluffs management has already begun making site preparations and those efforts will continue over the next several days. This morning the Builder Team was notified that they should begin securing their job sites tomorrow and while the office and Porches will be closed for Labor Day, the front gate will be open and Ron will be on site to check vehicles in and out.

The worst part of tropical events like these can be the uncertainty and waiting that precede it. Right now all the models seem to indicate that the storm will follow the coastline but it could could also make landfall in the Carolinas or go out to sea. The reality is that we just don’t know. The prudent thing to do in these situations is to prepare with the assumption that the storm will make landfall and that we will experience substantial wind and rain. Being proactive is important and you should not wait until the last minute to make plans. Keep in mind that we are in far better shape this year for a storm as we have experienced a long drought this summer and the “weaker” trees in the community were taken down by Florence. Many lessons were learned from last year’s experience and you can review those, as well as important planning recommendations, in a document posted on the portal in the Community Watch Club. This document has a number of basic planning recommendations and we encourage you to review it. We will also have copies available in the mail center later this afternoon.

We will be having a community meeting on Tuesday morning at 10:00a.m at Porches to go over planning procedures and other important community information. We expect it will be very crowded so please plan accordingly. Until then, think about your planning, review the aforementioned guidance and try not to watch the Weather Channel 24/7. We will be posting updates as needed and most certainly if the forecast changes.
