Following the Oct 9th announcement, it was great to see and hear the positive reactions to the future opening of The General Store. While we know that many wondered who was behind this new venture, it was our wish to focus on WHAT was coming, rather than the who. We genuinely appreciate all the support we have received.
We are so excited about the wonderful products that we have coming as well as the stories we have learned about the owners of the small businesses we are working with.
As many of you have mentioned having greeting cards and stamps, they arrived last week! The coffee maker is in place, grinders are ready to fill the air with the sweet smell of freshly roasted coffee beans. Flowers on Friday will be one of our first weekly specials – fresh cut flower bouquets will be available every Friday from the Castle Hayne Flower Farm. A selection of seasonal fresh produce will be coming weekly from local farmers and through a farmer exchange in Chadbourn, NC.
We also need to say “Thank You!” to Phil Wimberly and Don Kelemen for their help with moving in two of the cooler cases. Grateful to have the additional hands in maneuvering the equipment up the sidewalk ramp! Thank you both!
On Tuesday this week, you will likely see a lot of coming and going around the store location. A moving crew will be onsite as some of the kitchen equipment, tables and chairs are placed in storage to make room for new additions. We look to have the ice cream case delivered later this week.
So as inventory begins to arrive, we wait to complete our work with the county on inspections and permits. We wish we could set a date for the opening but as John (Lennon) will tell you, we are at the mercy of the county timeline! We are very appreciative of the help and information that John and Burrows has provided to help address the county issues. We are all anxious to complete the processes and open the doors!
