Volunteers Needed!
We are so fortunate to live in a community which has reached out to support needs in the local area. Many of you have helped with Operation Hope and have contributed food to the Little Red Wagon as well as providing other volunteer services. A group of residents has been approached by Burrows Smith to help the son of one of his employees who works at River Bluffs. We have come up with an initial core team of residents who are volunteering their time to help this 12 year old young man named Ray. Ray’s academic skills are significantly below grade level.
After meeting and discussing liability concerns with River Bluffs Corporation, we have come up with a plan to offer Ray help in reading and math four mornings a week during his summer vacation. All tutoring will be provided at the Community Activity Room (CAR) with a minimum of 2 unrelated people present. This will start on Thursday, July 5 th and take place every other week from 9 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Mondays through Thursdays. Hours may be extended if the need arises.
If you have been a teacher, tutoror or just love helping children and are willing to offer assistance to this core team, please let Karen Conger know. During the summer, we will need substitutes while we visit our families or go on vacation. Your role would be to assist one of the core team members or join the core team to provide tutoring help. We will be focusing on math, reading and counting money.
In addition, other volunteers are offering to teach Ray to swim, play pickleball, go kayaking and boating, create artwork and cook. You may have another area of interest as well that you can share with this young man. All activities will be of benefit for Ray and provide additional time to bolster his self-esteem as well as reinforce concepts learned.
Karen’s email is kconger53@yahoo.com.  It would be helpful if you could provide the days/times that you would be available when you contact her.
